I was driving home last week, later than I meant to be out, and the light did that thing it only does this time of year. Low, gold, slanting through the trees along Crowchild like it had somewhere to be. I actually pulled over for a second. Just to look at it.

That's autumn in Calgary. It doesn't ease in — it arrives, all at once, and it asks something of you. This year, if you're engaged, I think it's asking you to stop putting off the wedding planning you've been avoiding.

I get it. For a while, "we'll figure it out eventually" is a perfectly reasonable place to live. It doesn't deserve to be the thing that stresses you out, or the line item that keeps you up at night doing math.
